Axel Disasi has described the last few months of his time at Chelsea as ‘crazy’ after being consigned to their ‘bomb squad’ before sealing a loan move to West Ham United.

Disasi joined the Hammers on loan until the end of the season on the final day of the January transfer window.

Since moving to the London Stadium, the 27-year-old has started both of West Ham’s Premier League matches and featured in their 1-0 win at Burton Albion in the FA Cup fourth-round on Saturday.

The regular action in east London is in stark contrast to his time this season in west London where he didn’t play a single minute for Chelsea’s first-team.

In fact it had been over a year since the France defender had last played for the Blues before joining West Ham – with former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca omitting him from training.

And speaking about his ordeal, Disasi thanked his family for helping him get through his predicament – with him now enjoying life at the London Stadium.

‘It has been really nice, my situation before was a little bit crazy,’ he reflected to the Iron Cast podcast.

‘For me it is only a positive to be here, it feels great to be part of something.

‘In Chelsea the time was a little bit crazy but my background helped me to get through.

‘I stayed sharp, I was working hard and always made sure that my head stayed in the right way.

‘My family helped me a lot going through this.

‘During this period I saw that my background helped me a lot.’

Disasi will be hoping to help West Ham’s relegation fears once more when they host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday at 5.30pm.
