Jordan Pickford urges Everton to aim high and push for a Champions League spot

Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has told his team-mates to “grasp the opportunity” as the club bid to make a run for the European places this season after many years of battling to stay in the top flight.

“When I joined (in 2017) we were in Europe, we know the fantastic history of Everton Football Club, a lot of trophies won, a lot of titles won, and it’s how do we now create our own history as players?

“We’ve seen Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup and getting into Europe, Notts Forest getting into Europe – I know they’re not having the best of seasons but they were close to getting Champions League football last season – and Newcastle winning the League Cup when they’ve not won a trophy for a long time.

“The opportunities are there, it’s about taking them and grasping them with both hands when you get that opportunity because you might only get that one final in your career – you make sure you take it as a club and you’ll be remembered as a legend.”

Man United set Marcus Rashford price amid Barcelona interest

Manchester United will not reduce the asking price for Marcus Rashford if Barcelona want to buy the on-loan forward.

Barcelona have an option to purchase the England international for £26m in the summer and there are suggestions in Spain that they may seek to renegotiate the deal and try and get Rashford for less.

But United’s view is that, if Barcelona do choose to keep the 28-year-old, they will have to pay the amount agreed.

Head coach Carrick stressed that he always remembers his duties to United’s global fanbase as he struck a very different tone to co-owner Ratcliffe.

United had issued a statement which did not mention Ratcliffe specifically but said they prided themselves on being an “inclusive and welcoming club”.

The last time Everton played Manchester United in the Premier League

One of the games of the season? Idrissa Geuye was sent off for fighting Michael Keane, becoming the first Premier League player to be sent off for fighting a teammate since 2008, but Everton went on to claim a stunning victory after playing for more than 80 minutes with 10 men as David Moyes and his players held on to the advantage secured by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s first-half strike.

It left Everton boss Moyes delighted, who claimed his first ever win at Old Trafford as an away manager, praising the spirit of his players and claiming: “I like my players fighting each other.”

Man United looking to continue unbeaten run under Michael Carrick

Benjamin Sesko’s late goal earned Manchester United a point at West Ham almost two weeks ago, as Michael Carrick continued his unbeaten start.

The draw denied a certain supporter a long-awaited haircut and United a fifth win in a row, but Sesko’s late goal allowed the Red Devils to continue their momentum.

“We are doing everything to win the games, to secure the Champions League spot because we believe that we have the team for it,” Sesko said afterwards.
