ESPN star Kirk Herbstreit broke down in tears during an emotional tribute to college football legend Lee Corso.

The iconic broadcaster, who turned 90 on August 7, has been on ESPN’s College GameDay since its inception in 1987. He has made 430 picks by donning the team’s headgear in a now-beloved tradition.

But Corso will make his final appearance on the show next week, before Texas faces the defending national champions, Ohio State, on the opening weekend of the new season.

In a clip that appeared on social media on Friday, the former Florida State star choked up as he watched tributes – stitched together by ESPN – from coaches including Bill Belichick, as well as many former colleagues.

The video ended with comments from his fellow GameDay hosts: Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and Herbstreit.

‘It’s been an incredible…’ Herbstreit began before having to pause as tears filled his eyes.

From colleagues, to guest pickers, fans and beyond, those around the college football community share what Lee Corso means to them.

We love you, Coach 🧡 pic.twitter.com/jFgiANfVlu

‘An incredible honor. And a privilege to be with you, to be your partner for all these years,’ the ESPN star continued, his voice breaking.

‘There will never be another Lee Corso. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, for this show, for this sport. You’re one of one. Love ya, bud.’

Corso was also seen grabbing a handkerchief to wipe tears from his eyes. After the tribute ended, he was then greeted by Herbstreit, who said: ‘That was powerful.’

Herbstreit spent four years playing quarterback for Ohio State and next week, he and the entire College GameDay crew will head to Columbus for Corso’s final bow.

Several big-name coaches, including Texas’ Steve Sarkisian and LSU’s Brian Kelly were also among those to pay tribute to the 90-year-old. So were iconic guest pickers such as Scottie Scheffler, Charles Barkley and Will Ferrell.
