GOAL! England 1-0 Jamaica

Ella Toone points to the sky in memory of her late father after scoring the opening goal for England.

It had been coming: the Lionesses have started well and have been able to find either Toone or Georgia Stanway in pockets of space to break through Jamaica’s low block.

Stanway was involved in the build-up, playing on the half-turn and teeing up Toone. The Lionesses look dangerous with the twin-8s ahead of Keira Walsh.

GOAL! England 1-0 Jamaica

GOAL! An early goal for Ella Toone, and it’s a great finish.

Stanway receives the pass near the edge of the box and manages to slip it to Toone, who lines up the shot and just sweeps it into the corner past Brooks, wrapping her foot around it brilliantly.

Might have had the help of a slight deflection, but a great finish nonetheless.

England 0-0 Jamaica

Another half-chance for the hosts as Russo collects the loose ball in the box and lays it off to Stanway, who rifles an effort over.

Moments later, Russo latches onto the through ball to take it past Brooks on the edge of the box, but she’s forced to turn backwards.

England 0-0 Jamaica

Jamaica have their first spell of possession after a loose ball from Toone, though the ball over the top is covered well.

England 0-0 Jamaica

First chance of the game! A lovely one-two between Carter and Stanway leads to the former breaking into the box and testing Brooks with a decent low effort.

The visitors are struggling to keep possession at all at this point, with the Lionesses dominating possession.

England 0-0 Jamaica

Plenty of early possession for the hosts, with Jamaica happy to sit back at present.

England have tried to attack with intent early on but a couple of moves have broken down.

Reminder of team news and how to watch Lionesses send-off

England vs Jamaica will be shown on ITV 1 and online on ITV X,

Sarina Wiegman has made just two changes from the side that lost 2-1 to Spain earlier this month, with Niamh Charles replaced by Jess Carter at left-back and Jess Park coming out of midfield in favour of Ella Toone.

Alessia Russo starts upfront for the Lionesses, while Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway are partnered in the defensive midfield roles. Lauren James is ready to play some part from bench as she builds up her fitness.

Lionesses XI: Hampton; Bronze, Williamson, Greenwood, Carter; Walsh, Stanway, Toone; Mead, Russo, Hemp.

Wiegman speaks on Jamaica

Wiegman also gave her thoughts on today’s opponents, adding that “they’ll challenge us physically”.

“They have a pretty direct style of play, so we expect to have the ball and that’s where we put a bit more emphasis on,” she said.

“Of course you want to do it in every stage of the game you want to do well, but we need to be tight on the ball, we need to be calm on the ball, speed up when we need to speed up, and we really want to create chances as always, but be really well and composed to making the right decisions with the right speed in the final third,” she added.
