An elite college basketball recruit is facing a lengthy recovery after undergoing emergency back surgery following a horrific car crash.

Louisville commit Myah Epps, 18, was involved in the vehicular collision as she was on her way to Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana on March 13, according to a GoFundMe page launched in her name. She was later airlifted to Indianapolis for surgery.

‘By the Grace of God she is still with us!’ read the GoFundMe page. ‘However she sustained critical injuries and has a long recovery ahead of her. Many people have asked how they can help. This GofundMe has been created to help the family with the extensive healthcare expenses, hotel stays, food, and necessities.’

The GoFundMe page has received a $5,000 donation from Jalen Suggs, which happens to be the name of an Orlando Magic guard. The Daily Mail has reached out to Suggs’ agent for confirmation on the donation.

As of Tuesday, the fund had reached its $50,000 goal.

‘The Epps family is so thankful for the outpouring of love they have received through messages, calls, and prayers that have been sent to them,’ read the post. ‘Keep the love & prayers coming, it is being felt!’

Epps was a top recruit out of Homestead before committing to the University of Louisville

Louisville coach Jeff Walz told Louisville’s WHAS 11 he wants to visit Myah in the hospital, but noted that hope is complicated by the Cardinals’ upcoming NCAA tournament game with Vermont on Saturday.

‘I’ve been on the phone with Myah and her family,’ Walz told WHAS’ Sarandon Raboin on Selection Sunday. ‘She had surgery this morning. The doctor said things went well. She’s got a long road in front of her for recovery, but they’re expecting a full recovery. I’m hoping to go up on Tuesday night after our practice to see her. It’s a scary situation. She was on her way to school.’

The school also released its own statement following the crash as a wave of false rumors began surfacing online.

‘Myah, an HHS athlete, was involved in a car accident and is currently in stable condition,’ read the school’s post. ‘Other information being shared is inaccurate.’

The senior averaged 14 points, 4.1 assists and 4 rebounds a game for Homestead this season, according to IndyStar.com. She finished her high school career with 1,560 points and 445 assists.

Louisville is a two-time NCAA runner-up and a major power in women’s college basketball.

Currently a No. 3 seed in March Madness, the Cardinals have a number of top players, including Izela Arenas, the daughter of former NBA star, Gilbert.
