An EFL fixture has been delayed after paramedics attended to a medical emergency in the stands.

On Saturday Newport County were scheduled to welcome the visit of Notts County for the opening day of League Two.

Kick-off at Rodney Parade was originally scheduled for 3pm.

However, the game had to be delayed after a medical emergency unfolded in the stands.

Two air ambulances rushed to scene and landed on the pitch, and the stadium was evacuated.

Both teams released statements on social media to announce that kick-off would be delayed.

It read: ‘Due to a supporter being taken ill in the stands, an air ambulance has landed on the pitch. A delay to kick-off is likely, with more details to follow ASAP.

‘We send our very best wishes to the individual concerned.’

Newport later provided an additional updated on social media noting that the game is still scheduled to go ahead.

‘The medical situation is still ongoing,’ it read.

‘At present, the plan is for the match to commence at an agreed time which allows both teams to warm-up sufficiently after the two air ambulances depart.

‘We will keep supporters updated and continue to send our well wishes to the affected individual.’

A further update from Notts County confirmed that kick-off had been moved back one hour.

It read: ‘Kick-off has been agreed for 4pm.

‘We await a further update on the condition of the supporter, who remains in our thoughts.’
