A budding romance between a former Eagles player and the ex-wife of another retired Philadelphia football star has offended one of sports loudest voices, Craig Carton.
Earlier this week, the ex-wife of erstwhile Eagles tight end Brent Celek announced a new romance with Hollis Thomas, who played nine seasons in Philadelphia until he was traded to New Orleans in 2006.
One season later, Brent arrived as a fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati and went on to cement himself as the Eagles tight end for the better part of the next decade. He and Susie would have four children together before splitting sometime after 2019.
‘Life tends to show I’m not big on commitment, but I’m stuck on you big man,’ Susie wrote on Instagram about Thomas, who was listed at 335 pounds during his playing days.
Thomas and Brent were never teammates, but according to Carton, now a sports podcaster, the retired defensive tackle has broken an unwritten rule.
‘So Brent Celek, Eagles star tight end, and his wife Susie have gotten divorced,’ Carton said on his eponymous show. ‘Susie went public with her new romance yesterday. That’s her lip-locking with Hollis Thomas. Now Hollis Thomas is also a former Philadelphia Eagle.

‘Susie Celek, now I don’t what happened while they were married,’ he continued. ‘It’s none of my business and they are divorced.’
Carton could have stopped there, taking the obvious offramp he’d just given himself, but instead barreled towards a hotter take.
‘If you really, want to rub it in to an ex-husband, you go public tonguing a former teammate of your ex-husband,’ Carton said. ‘That’s a snake in the grass right there.’
Carton then refocused his disgust on Thomas.
‘There’s a guy code I live my life by,’ the 57-year-old Carton continued. ‘There are certain women you can’t have sex with. I’m sorry. And there’s got to be a code – I know there’s not – but there should be a code amongst NFL players that played for the same team, even if not at the same time.
‘You don’t go public banging a guy’s ex-wife! And clearly, he’s banging her.’
Carton recently returned to New York’s WFAN in addition to his work with his own podcast.
He famously teamed with former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason on WFAN’s ‘Boomer and Carton’ from 2007 until 2017, when he was arrested on federal securities fraud and wire fraud charges related to his admitted gambling addiction. Since then, he has been released from prison and now works to raise awareness about dangerous gambling habits.
