Warmer climes have finally arrived, and if you’re already struggling in the heat, then the launch of Dyson’s first handheld fan could be the very thing you need to keep cool. With temperatures expected to soar to 23C in parts of the UK, the Dyson hushjet mini cool couldn’t have come at a better time.

Costing just £99, Dyson’s handheld fan seems like an ultra-versatile bit of kit. It can be worn around your neck or placed on a desk, with the king of air treatment saying that it boasts multiple airflow settings, runs quietly and lasts up to six hours on a single charge.

The launch of the hushjet mini cool follows in the footsteps of Shark, which recently introduced a three-in-one chillpill handheld fan, complete with a cooling plate and fine-mist spray. Here’s everything you need to know about the new £99 cooling device.

Dyson hushjet mini cool handheld fan

Like many handheld fans, Dyson’s hushjet mini cool can be used in various orientations. You can use it on the go, prop it up on your desk or wear it around your neck using the included dock. It’s also fairly light at just 212g.

Dyson says it delivers airflow speeds of up to 25m/s, powered by a high-speed motor that spins at up to 65,000rpm. That should translate to a pretty strong blast of air, with five airflow settings plus a boost mode for when you need a quick hit of cooling.

The brand has also paid a great deal of attention to better-targeting airflow, saying its hushjet projection system is designed to direct air more efficiently rather than just blowing it around.

One thing I’ve always hated about handheld fans is that they can sound like you’re sitting next to a jet engine. Dyson has worked on dampening the sound with the hushjet nozzle to reduce turbulence and cut down on that high-pitched whirring. Noise levels sit at around 52dBA on the lowest setting, getting as loud as 72dBA in boost mode.

Battery life is rated at up to six hours, and it charges via USB-C in around three hours. It comes in three classic Dyson finishes, including ink/cobalt, carnelian/sky and stone/blush, and includes a neck dock, charging stand, travel pouch and USB-C cable in the box.

You can also buy a universal mount for attaching it to objects like prams and a grip clip for bags or clothing.

Keep your eyes peeled for my full in-depth review coming soon, or see my pick of the best portable fans for more options.
