  • Dustin Martin spotted having lunch with former teammate
  • Richmond legend looked like he’s been keeping very fit

He hasn’t played a game of football since round 21 last year, but Tigers great Dustin Martin looked like he could claim a spot on any AFL side when he was spotted in Melbourne last week.

The former Richmond star was photographed getting lunch with ex-teammate Dion Prestia at Gilson restaurant in South Yarra, both of them looking relaxed in casual attire.

The 33-year-old retired from the AFL last year following a decorated career with Richmond that included three premierships.

A noted big-game player, the champion midfielder also snared the Norm Smith Medal as best on ground in each of the Tigers’ grand final triumphs in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Martin has since turned his attention to his multimillion-dollar property portfolio, and is making a killing.

The footy star has also reportedly found a new sport that he’s become absolutely obsessed with – golf.

Dusty has made numerous trips to some of the best golf courses in south east Asia over the last year, with his golf handicap dropping fast.

Richmond supremo Shane Dunne told the Herald Sun he’d like to have Martin working for the club in some capacity.

‘I swap texts with Dusty every now and then. Just check on him and see how he’s going,’ he said.

‘And I don’t get a lot of time for golf. At the moment, everyone tells me that is where they see him and he’s very engaged and focused on his golf

‘But I made it clear to Dustin that he’s got an open door to this club whenever he wants. If he wants to wander back in here at any point in time, he’s more than welcome.

‘And whether that’s he just wants to come and hang out or he wants to get involved in a more structured way that the door is always open for Dustin.’

Martin, who has a fiercely-guarded private life, is still a hugely recognisable athlete in Australia.

Last year there was some speculation that Martin might step into broadcasting with Fox Footy – but what he was working on was an ad campaign for Kayo.

AFLW player Tayla Harris, and former stars Jack Riewoldt, Jonathan Brown and Dermott Brereton all make an appearance in the ad where they line up to get a Dusty haircut.

Martin made his AFL debut in 2010 and despite some lean early years, he remained a one-club player at Punt Rd.

Success eventually followed, with Martin a key figure as Tigers fans enjoyed a premiership dynasty.
