A burst pipe has forced a zoo to close for the day and other homes in the area to be affected by water supply issues.

Drusillas Park in Alfriston, East Sussex, said it closed as it has no water.

A spokesperson for the park added: “We have provisions in place for our animals, who have access to all the water that they need.”

South East Water had reported that some residents in the Alfriston area had no water or low pressure due to a serious burst main on its network.

Drusillas Park said all tickets for Saturday would be replaced.

Charles Healey, incident manager for South East Water, said the burst had been located and was being repaired.

“We have been using our fleet of tankers to inject water directly into the network to minimise the disruption and our customers in Alfriston, including Drusillas Park, should see some supply returning,” he added.

“Bottled water is being delivered to our customers that are on the priority services register.”
