Jack Draper 4-2 Joao Fonseca*

Solid hold from Draper. Fonseca looks quite under-powered against the fifth seed, and a little out of ideas. He goes for the drop shot but Draper reaches it with ease and puts away the sliding forehand winner.

Draper shows off his touch but catching Fonseca when he’s deep behind the baseline, going to the inside-out drop shot that worked so well against Monfils.

Fonseca holds from 15-15, benefitting from a couple of errors from Draper.

Awesome from Draper as the forehand finds its mark and he pushes Fonseca deep before putting away the smash.

Draper then moves in well and pops the volley into open court. Fonseca nets on the backhand and Draper gets a comfortable hold.

*Jack Draper 2-1 Joao Fonseca – Draper breaks!

Draper breaks at the first opportunity! This time Fonseca can’t adjust to Draper’s deep forehand crosscourt, and the Brazilian nets on the half-volley at the baseline.

Draper is solid on the break point. Fonseca misses long and the Briton gets the early break through.

An early theme here is the forehand battle between the right-handed Fonseca and left-handed Draper. Fonseca is looking to disrupt Draper by hitting with power to his forehand side.

Fonseca comes into the net on game point but Draper responds well and blasts his way through!

Draper shrugs off a double fault on the second point to start with a hold of his own. He reads the Fonseca drop shot and moves in well to put away the volley. Fonseca nets as he looks to run around the backhand but puts the forehand into the net.

*Jack Draper 0-1 Joao Fonseca

Fonseca is slight and baby-faced, but the Brazilian carries extraordinary power behind his explosive forehand.

The teenager shrugs off two misses with an inside-out winner, then another big forehand to Draper’s lefty forehand.

Draper goes long and Fonseca holds.

Away we go. Fonseca, in his rainbow coloured top, will serve first. Draper, in his red and burgundy stripes, is receiving at the far end of the court.

Draper had not won a match at the French Open until this week but now he is just one win away from the last-16 of Roland Garros.

He is looking better on the clay with each passing match, and had to dig deep to overcome Gael Monfils in four sets in the previous round.

Monfils, 38, is 20 years older than Fonseca, so it’s a completely different challenge for Draper today. The Brazilian is into the third round of a grand slam for the first time.

Draper wins the toss and elects to receive.

Here we go! The players are being announced onto court and Draper and Fonseca will be stepping out onto Court Suzanne-Lenglen in the new few minutes.

Here’s what Fonseca had to say about the British No 1 and fifth seed, as well as the atmosphere generated by his Brazilian supporters.

“I came from Brazil. I mean, I went to a lot of matches, football matches. It’s loud. Brazilian people are loud also.

“Jack’s a great guy. I always pass to him and he talks to me. Just super nice.”
