Donald Trump mocks March Madness bracket mayhem before his wrestling appearance on Saturday night

President Trump has enjoyed the chaos of March Madness after the first two days of the iconic college basketball tournament – and might be feeling relieved he didn’t have the time to fill in his own bracket.

Speaking to reporters Friday outside the White House, where he outlined his plans for the weekend that include a trip to a college wrestling event in Philadelphia, Trump was asked if picked a bracket himself.

‘I didn’t,’ he responded. ‘I should have. Have there been upsets? A couple, right? I can give you one but maybe backdated.’

According to data from the NCAA, there are nearly no perfect brackets remaining after a number of surprise results in the opening stages of the competition.

As of the early hours of Saturday, ESPN’s tracker listed 121 perfect brackets — down from 1,098 early in the day — remaining out of 24 million on its site following the Friday night slate.

But for Trump, on Saturday his attention will be on a different NCAA event as he heads to Philadelphia to watch college wrestling.

Trump said: ‘We’re going to the big fight. The reason I’m going is because in Philadelphia they have the world wrestling for college.

‘I’ve always supported the wrestlers, so I wanted to support them. These are the great college wrestlers from the various schools.

‘I think Penn State is leading, Nebraska is second place and we are going to be there on Saturday night.’

Attending sporting events has been a key pillar of the early days of Trump’s second presidency.

He became the first sitting president in history to attend the Super Bowl in February, where the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.

Trump then went on to attend NASCAR’s Daytona 500 the following week in Florida.
