A Cheshire businesswoman has admitted running dog kennels without a licence.

Jacqui Noon, from Disley, pleaded guilty at Crewe Magistrates’ Court to operating an unlicensed animal boarding establishment.

Cheshire East Council, which accused her of running Disley Kennels without an appropriate licence, said the matter was treated “very seriously”.

Noon, of Green Lane, was given an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £1,000 and a £26 court surcharge.

Businesses including pet shops, boarding kennels and riding stables must be licensed under the Animal Welfare Regulations 2018.

Councillor David Jefferay, who chairs the local authority’s environment and communities committee, said: “I do hope that as a result of this case, residents will see just how seriously this council treats matters of businesses or individuals operating without an appropriate licence.

“Away from my role as a Cheshire East councillor, my day job is working with dogs.

“I have two dogs, three cats and rescue chickens, so animal safety and welfare is of the utmost importance to me.

“My message to any business, whether working with animals or not, is clear – you must have the appropriate licence in place to do so.”
