Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck will likely have headed straight to the showers in the wake of his team’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl win on Friday night, after becoming the latest recipient of the game’s annual tradition.
As is now customary in the immediate aftermath of the game, the head coach of the victorious team gets bathed in mayonnaise in front of the TV cameras, and this year it was the turn of the Golden Gophers.
Minnesota beat the Virginia Tech Hokies 24-10 in Charlotte, leading to coach Fleck sitting down for the postgame ceremony.
While others have caused anger by opting to keep their hats on for the dousing, Fleck embraced it by whipping his off and taking the full force of the mayo on top of his bald head.
In another twist to the norm, the 2025 mayo pouring came from a ‘secret celebrity’, quickly revealed to be rapper Flavor Flav.
In a clip that went viral on social media, Fleck can be seen jokingly pulling on a swimming cap for the festivities, before getting booed by the crowd and ripping it off to take the full force of the hit.

He then sits down and the mascot, Flavor Flav, and a couple of helpers lift the mayo bucket over his head and cover him head to toe.
Hilariously, Fleck then got several others messy by hugging both the mascot and ESPN reporter Harry Lyles Jr.
During the game itself, Flavor Flav had kept his identity a secret by dressing as Tubby, the Duke’s Mayo mascot.

Fleck is the fourth coach to get doused in mayonnaise since the Belk Bowl became the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in 2020.
He joins South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, Maryland’s Mike Locksley and West Virginia’s Neal Brown in ‘enjoying’ the now-annual tradition.
In the first ever Mayo Bowl in 2020, Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst missed out on the honor due to concerns from the Bank of America Stadium about mayonnaise being poured on the field.
