Diogo Jota is set to feature on the Premier League’s official trading cards for the 2025-26 season after his tragic death at the age of 28 last month.

On July 3, Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, died when their car crashed in the early hours in northern Spain.

The forward had recently married his childhood sweetheart at a ceremony in his native Portugal following a campaign culminating in trophy-winning successes for both club and country.

Liverpool have paid a number of tributes to the forward since, with Reds boss Arne Slot insisting that retiring Jota’s number was the least the club could do.

He will be forever remembered at Anfield, and the player will appear on a number of trading cards in the official Topps collection for the new season when they are launched on Thursday.

That’s because the selection of players who are to feature from each club had to be finalised by May, with packs sent for production ahead of the launch. Topps are said to have made Liverpool aware of the situation.

The collection, which will be launched on August 21 internationally, contains signed cards with genuine autographs. Jota is understood to have signed some of the cards, according to The Athletic.

Debut boxes were available to pre-order for £87.99, with the starter pack costing £11.99 and the eco pack £8.99.

At the weekend, meanwhile, Liverpool paid a tear-jerking tribute to Jota and his Silva ahead of their double-header of friendlies against Athletic Bilbao on Monday night.

Arne Slot’s side played the Basque club twice in back-to-back matches a couple of hours apart in their first fixtures at Anfield since the tragic deaths of the two brothers.

The siblings were honoured before pre-season matches against Preston North End, AC Milan and Yokohama FM, but back at Anfield, Reds legend Phil Thompson and Bilbao president Jon Uriarte laid wreaths on the pitch, in front of the Kop.

The billboard around the pitch read, ‘Rest in peace Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, You’ll Never Walk Alone’, while supporters chanted Jota’s name when Thompson and Uriate walked onto the field. The chorus began again at the start of the match.

The crowd also held up flags and banners to remember Jota and stood to applaud – alongside both teams – in the 20th minute, a nod to the forward’s shirt number.
