Deion Sanders has opened up about the ‘excruciating’ pain he was left in after having his bladder removed, as the Colorado football coach spoke about his cancer battle in a new interview.

Sanders, 58, revealed in July that he had a tumor in his bladder removed as he discussed his previously undisclosed health issues in an emotional press conference.

Now, he has gone into more detail following his cancer battle, telling Good Morning America that he was left ‘screaming’ on the bathroom floor in pain at one point.

Specifically, doctors instructed him to try and urinate after a procedure which rebuilt his bladder using part of his intestine.

‘That was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my life,’ he said.

‘I remember just on the ground in the bathroom, and I’m just screaming because it was so much pain,’ he added.

After testing revealed that he had an aggressive form of cancer, he was reportedly given the options of having his bladder removed or undergoing 36 weeks of chemotherapy.

‘I prayed on it. And I’m aggressive, man,’ he said of his decision, which he made just nine days after his cancer diagnosis.

‘I ain’t waiting. I ain’t sitting back on the curb waiting to go slowly but surely do whatever’s gonna happen.’

Sanders has returned to the sidelines to coach the Buffaloes, though he continues to deal with his bladder removal.

The program has actually equipped him with a personal toilet on the sideline, while he told GMA that he sometimes goes through ‘two pairs of Depends’ per night.

‘I choose to rise up and not to stay down. I choose to share,’ he later continued.

‘I want everybody to understand you can make it. We’ve all got something to fight. Who out there isn’t fighting something? It may not be cancer, but it’s something. But you will overcome. We can do this.’

Back in July, Sanders said that he had lost 25 pounds, as his medical team explained how his cancer was initially discovered when he had a routine CT scan of his vascular system.

The former two-way NFL star has had 14 surgeries for various health issues since 2021.

He had surgeries on his leg and foot in 2022 and 2023 – which included the amputation of two of his toes.

He even revealed in a previous video on his family’s YouTube channel that he had to make a will.

His Colorado team have gotten off to a 2-2 start and beat Wyoming 37-20 last weekend.
