Comedian Dave Hughes has posted a stomach-churning video from hospital as his serious injuries from a recent celebrity footy game continue to haunt him.

In September, Hughes was left battered and bruised following a heavy on-field collision at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Hughes suffered multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung while lining up for Victoria against the All Stars.

On Monday, Hughes posted a clip from his hospital bed – and it wasn’t for the faint-hearted.

‘The experts are draining a coupla (sic) litres of lung fluid into a goon bag for me,’ he posted on Instagram.

‘Then it’s party time again.’

Following the on-field incident, Hughes declared he ‘nearly died’ – and later bravely conducted several media interviews from the ICU despite being heavily medicated on morphine and struggling to breathe.

AFL legend Brendan Fevola – who also played in the Legends match – felt the Aussie funnyman was ‘assaulted’ and was the victim of a ‘dog act.’

‘I was standing right near that and he’s jacked up, Robbo [Mitch Robinson] and would have pushed his ribs in, I reckon,’ Fevola said on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Nick show.

‘That was a brutal off-the-ball hit. Just a dog act, that was.’

Co-host Fifi Box agreed, stating she feared for Hughes’s health.

‘He was unfairly picked on, he was being beaten up. I didn’t like it at all,’ she said.

‘We are very worried about him.’

The most serious injury occurred after a crunching clash with former AFL players Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe and Mitch Robinson, with Hughes bravely playing on despite the obvious pain.

Remarkably, he even stayed on to celebrate with teammates following the final siren before his condition worsened.

Gorringe eventually apologised for targeting The Project star.

‘I just want to say that I am so sorry for my little thump on you that has obviously caused so much damage,’ he told 92.9 Triple M Breakfast with Xav & Katie.

‘How brave were you, big fella, to continue with the game… I’m thinking of you.’
