McFly have started working on a new album, a member of the pop punk group has revealed.

The record will be the band’s first album since 2023’s Power To Play, with singer and guitarist Danny Jones saying he wants the group to sound like a “glorified pub band” on it.

Jones said: “It’s all under wraps until I tell you that we’re making a new album.

“We’re in the studio at the minute, and it’s funny because we were just talking about capturing the energy of (performing in a pub), we called ourselves the other day a glorified pub band, that’s what we want to sound like.

“We want to sound like a glorified pub band, but that hopefully can play arenas.”

Jones, 40, said the record would be partly inspired by the recently reunited Oasis, whose catalogue he said was made up of the “biggest sing-along songs ever created”.

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner added: “We (the public) all feel like we could probably be in Oasis, and I love that, that’s what’s great.

“That’s what was good about punk music, punk music was massive because everybody felt like they could do it…

“Not everybody can sing like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, that’s like whoa, that’s god-like…

“So what we’ve been trying to create, actually, we’ve been trying to find ourselves as a band recently, like what will fulfil all four of us, not just one or two of us.

“Because over the years, I feel like maybe we’ve tried to fulfil one of us more than the others, and what we discovered on our last album, there’s been a couple of albums, (Radio:Active) and Power To Play. And when we play those songs, we look at each other and we’re laughing and we’re thinking this is badass, this is awesome.

“We feel amazing, the others are all a little bit more challenging because they’re a bit more poppier or they’re a bit more produced.”

Formed in 2003, McFly are completed by singer and guitarist Tom Fletcher, bass player Dougie Poynter and drummer Harry Judd.

They have achieved 19 UK top 10 singles including seven number ones, as well as seven top 10 albums including two number ones in Room On The 3rd Floor and Wonderland.

McFly’s best-known songs include 5 Colours In Her Hair, All About You and I’ll Be Ok.

The interview comes as Jones fronts pub chain Greene King’s Live At Your Local campaign, which celebrates grassroots music with 1,000 free gigs and live music events across its venues in August and September, allowing music fans to see emerging talent in their local pubs.
