Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb fumes over his ‘terrible’ mistakes in Philadelphia Eagles loss: ‘It stings’

Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb insists he takes full responsibility for his ‘terrible’ dropped passes in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night.

The Super Bowl champion Eagles ran out 24-20 winners in a dramatic NFL season opener, which saw Philadelphia defensive tackle Jalen Carter ejected in the first few minutes for spitting on Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.

Play was also suspended for an hour in the third quarter after both teams were rushed into the locker rooms at Lincoln Financial Field due to lightning strikes in the area.

It proved a frustrating first night of the season for the Cowboys, who were narrowly beaten after neither offense managed to score in the fourth and final quarter.

That could have been very different had Lamb not suffered four costly drops on the night, including two on a crucial late drive when Dallas had the chance to take the lead.

The four-time Pro Bowl and one-time All-Pro wideout endured a mixed night at the office, as he still went down as the game’s leading receiver with seven catches for 110 yards.

However, he knows Dallas could have walked away with a famous victory in Philly had he not also fluffed his lines on four occasions.

‘That’s terrible. I can’t point no fingers at nobody else,’ Lamb admitted about his drops after the game. ‘I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it.

‘For me as a player, I pray for moments like that… For me not to come up with it, it stings a little bit.’

Lamb’s biggest mishaps came in the fourth quarter, with the 26-year-old first failing to catch a third-down dart from Prescott over the middle.

Then, on the Cowboys’ final drive, he got open deep for what could have been a game-flipping play, only for the ball to slide through his hands once more.

Despite those errors, Lamb still has the full backing of Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who stressed that responsibility for the defeat lies with the whole team.

‘Don’t worry about Ceedee Lamb,’ Schottenheimer said. ‘Ceedee’s going to be fine. What a great player.

‘This was a team defeat, and we own that. We understand where we can go as a football team. We understand. I love the competition. I thought guys competed their butts off.

‘I thought that was great, but we’re all about winning, and we didn’t win tonight, and therefore it’s not good enough.’
