A Coronation Street legend has revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, as her co-stars rally around her in support.

On Saturday (25 April), Tracy Shaw, who played Maxine Peacock in the soap, told her Instagram followers that she will have to undergo chemotherapy for five months after lumps and lymph glands were discovered during a test.

Visibly emotional, Shaw thanked her friends and fans for messaging to “check how I am” following a break from social media to process the news.

Several of her co-stars issued messages of support to the 52-year-old. Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, said: “Sending love to you Tracy,” whilst Sally Ann Matthews, who portrayed Jenny Bradley, wrote: “Love you baby girl.”
