Apply for a share of up to £4.7 million across four themes to develop a prototype, conduct field testing, and demonstrate a solution to enhance UK railways.
Eligibility criteria
This competition is open to single applicants who are expected to include an integration supporter in their project.
To lead a project, you can
- be an organisation of any size
- work alone or with the subcontracted skills and expertise of others from businesses, research organisations, research and technology organisations or the third sector
Your project must
- start by 1 September 2025
- end by 31 March 2026
- last between three to seven months
- have total costs of no more than £200,000, inclusive of VAT

- personal safety
- bridge strikes
- AI for complex processes
Organisations must select a single theme in this single-phase Contracts for Innovation competition.
