Washington Commanders star Terry McLaurin did not show up to the first day of training camp amid a contract dispute with the team.
McLaurin was spotted out in Virginia attending a yoga session rather than in the team’s practice facility in the same state.
The Commanders are coming off a strong season where they reached the NFC Championship game.
McLaurin was a major part of that success. He finished 15th in the league for receiving yards with 1,096 and second in receiving touchdowns with 13.
He did so while earning $24.1million. He’s set to earn $25.5m this season before his contract lapses and he becomes a free agent.
McLaurin spoke last week and said that, ‘without any progressive discussions, it’s kind of hard to see how I step on the field.’

McLaurin has been one of the top wide receivers in the league and will earn a big payday
The receiver also said that his representatives and the team haven’t spoken in over a month. This appears to contradict Commanders GM Adam Peters who said, ‘We’ve had some good conversations recently, and we’ll continue to. We’ll do everything we can to get a deal done.’
McLaurin will be fined $50,000 for each day of training camp that he misses.
At the age of 31, McLaurin will be looking to lock down the biggest contract of his career.
As one of the top wide receivers in the league, he’d likely command a contract valued at or above $30million per year.
That would put him in the company of Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, DK Metcalf, Garrett Wilson, AJ Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brandon Aiyuk, and Tyreek Hill.
He likely wouldn’t command a contract to rival that of Ja’Marr Chase’s league-leading $40.25m per year.
The Commanders are likely to contend for the playoffs again this year and are projected to be one of the top teams in the NFC.
