Oklahoma State University was forced to postpone its softball game against Wichita State this week after the team’s bus was involved in a fatal collision.

The crash happened on Interstate 35 in Noble County in Oklahoma at around 2:05pm Wednesday.

The team’s bus struck a 62-year-old woman, who was fatally injured. The northbound side of the highway was closed for around two hours following the crash.

‘Today’s scheduled softball game between Oklahoma State and Wichita State has been postponed after the Cowgirls’ team bus was involved in an accident on the way to Wichita,’ the team said in a statement.

‘No one from the OSU travel party was injured.’

It has since emerged that, moments before the crash, authorities received a number of 911 calls to alert them to a woman on the highway. She was said to be ‘leaping’ in and out of traffic near to where the accident took place.

It has not been confirmed that it was the same woman killed in the collision but The Athletic reported the first 911 call came just a minute before the incident took place.

Oklahoma State softball coach Kenny Gajewski announced on Instagram that his team continued their journey to Wichita State.

He posted several photos of the team’s facility and his players, captioning it: ‘Thank you to @goshockerssb for allowing us to come by and heal a bit this morning.

‘When times are tough, we turn to our friends’.

The game that was postponed had been abandoned earlier in the season due to rain with Wichita State leading 8-3 in the seventh inning.

The Oklahoma State Cowgirls are currently the 20th best team in America and have won four straight games.
