Vanderbilt pitcher Connor Fennell picked an unusual time to celebrate on the mound during the ongoing SEC Tournament in Alabama on Tuesday.

Not only was he losing to Kentucky 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but Fennell was still in the midst of a matchup with Wildcats right fielder Carson Hansen when he had a profane outburst that has since gone viral.

After Hansen failed to check his swing on the first pitch of the plate appearance, resulting in a strike call, Fennell could be heard exclaiming: ‘You’re f***ing mine, let’s go!’

But as many NCAA baseball fans know by now, Fennell’s outburst was a bit premature as Hansen sent the following pitch over the left-centerfield wall to push the Wildcats’ lead to 3-1.

‘Bro thought he was prime Mad Max Scherzer and received instant karma,’ one fan remarked, referring to the three-time Cy Young winner and current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher.

At first, Hansen’s shot didn’t look like it was hit hard enough to go out and the announcer initially described it as a ‘pop-up’ before the wind carried it the rest of the way.

But even if Hansen did need some help with his fourth home run of the season, that fact didn’t make the situation any less embarrassing for Fennell.

‘This is so dumb that the pitcher is yelling this,’ MLB Radio’s Grant Paulsen wrote on X. ‘Also, if I take a dude deep after he’s yelling this at me he’s going to hear about it.’

‘This punk pitcher, well.. deserved it!’ another added. ‘Big mouth tuff guys always end up eating there (sic) words in sports… karma a b****.’

‘Real Class-LESS,’ a critic wrote. ‘Vandy Pitcher. Learn some humility. You are throwing a ball, that is all you are doing.’

Many couldn’t help but notice that Fennell was celebrating on the mound while reaching around 88mph – a far cry from the mid-90s fastball typically thrown MLB hurlers.

‘Bro is throwing 88 talking like this,’ one fan joked alongside a string of laughing emojis.

‘Is he yelling this while piping 88?’ another added.

Fennell would surrender a fourth run before being pulled in the fifth, but the news for Vanderbilt quickly improved from there. Thanks to a four-run sixth and a two-run homer in the eighth, the Commodores came back for an 8-5 win.

Now No. 12 seed Vanderbilt moves on to face No. 5 seed Florida in the second round on Wednesday.

A New Hampshire native, Fennell previously attended Dayton before transferring to Vanderbilt, where he’s posted an unsightly 4.96 earned-run average (ERA) in 2026. The 21-year-old was more effective for the Commodores last season, posting a 2.53 ERA with a miniscule 0.825 WHIP (walks and hits per inning).
