College football star risks huge opportunity without playing a game as he is charged with battery on a police officer and violently resisting arrest

A Florida State Seminoles college football signing has been suspended after his arrest on felony assault and battery charges in South Florida.

Kicker Conor McAneney has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest by obstructing with violence and trespassing. 

The first two charges have been listed in court records as third-degree felonies.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Florida State confirmed that McAneney has been ‘suspended indefinitely from all team activities.’

In a mug shot attached to his file, McAneney is seen with a bloodied and swollen lip as well as what appeared to be swelling on his jaw and bruising in multiple places on his face.

According to records in Broward County, McAneney was booked on March 18. There is no expected release date.

McAneney is a sophomore and a transfer from Quincy University – a Division II school in Illinois.

Across 11 games as a placekicker, McAneney converted seven of his ten field goal attempts – hitting a career-long of 45 yards.

McAneney also handled kickoffs, averaging 60.2 yards per kickoff on 49 attempts and logging 16 touchbacks. 

Listed on the FSU website as a native of Plumbridge, Ireland, McAneney previously competed in Gaelic football while in prep school.

Florida State is currently on spring break and is not actively practicing after previously beginning camp last week.

The Seminoles went 5-7 last season, having gone a combined 7-17 in the past two campaigns.

Last year, FSU’s kicker – Jake Weinberg – only converted 63.2 percent of his kicks. It was the worst field goal percentage in the ACC, the third-worst among ‘Power Four’ schools and the seventh-worst in all of the FBS.
