Daniel Israel Mincey, the former University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) football player accused of stabbing two teammates before a game, has entered the transfer portal, according to On3.com.

The sophomore offensive lineman already transferred once before, leaving the University of Kentucky shortly after 2025 spring practice and committing to UAB.

This time the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native is trying to find a new school two months after being accused of stabbing teammates Josh Underwood and JaSire Peterson before UAB played South Florida in Birmingham. Both Peterson and Underwood were released from the hospital in December and were said to be ‘recovering.’

The 20-year-old Mincey, meanwhile, is planning to plead guilty to attempted murder and assault as a youthful offender at a January 20 hearing in Jefferson County, Alabama, according to court documents.

Judge William Bell Jr. has ordered probation services to conduct a youthful offender investigation before that hearing. It’s unclear what punishment Mincey could be facing as Alabama judges have the authority to be lenient with defendants under the age of 21.

As a result, Mincey’s clouded future in football likely rests in Bell’s hands.

The stabbing took place shortly after 10am local time inside the football operations building.

The game wasn’t postponed and the Blazers went on to lose, 48-18.

A month later, interim coach Alex Mortensen offered a positive update on Underwood and Peterson’s conditions.

‘I’ve had the opportunity to sit with our injured players and their families, and they are okay with me telling you that they have left the hospital and are recovering. They appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers.’

A 6ft4, 315-pound interior lineman, Mincey was a three-star recruit at Fort Lauderdale’s Cardinal Gibbons.
