A new funding opportunity is now open to support co-operative growth
The Department for the Economy (DfE) has launched an open call designed to help more groups explore and develop co-operative business ideas, while also strengthening the support available to existing co-operatives.
Co-operatives are businesses that are owned and run by their members, for example workers, consumers, or local community groups. They operate on the principles of democratic ownership, shared benefit and reinvestment into their local area.
Areas of support available
The DfE is inviting proposals that address one or more of the following areas
- awareness and outreach – activities that help more people understand what co operatives are and how they work
- support and infrastructure – practical assistance for new or existing co operatives
- sector development – projects that help co operatives explore new opportunities, develop new services or move into new markets
Funding is available for up to two years.
How to apply
Applicants should review the full guidance, including eligibility criteria and required documentation, before submitting a proposal to the Co-operative Support Open Call.
Applications must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 3 March 2026.
