Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has resigned from his role.
Schwartz was among the contenders to replace fired head coach Kevin Stefanski, but he was overlooked with the role eventually going to Todd Monken.
It seemed as though Monken, the former offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, was keen to retain Schwartz as his defensive guru.
The 59-year-old will immediately become one of the most in-demand coordinators on the market after his impressive work with Myles Garrett and the Browns defense.
A statement from the Browns read: ‘Yesterday, Jim Schwartz submitted his letter of resignation as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
‘We’d like to thank Jim for his contributions to our organization over the last three seasons. Our search for a new defensive coordinator will begin immediately.’

Reports claim that Schwartz reportedly submitted his resignation letter Thursday.
That was the same day that Garrett was named the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year and teammate Carson Schwesinger was named Defensive Rookie of the Year thanks to remarkable seasons.
Cleveland led the league in total defense in 2023 and ranked fourth this season under Schwartz’s leadership.
Garrett had 23 sacks to break the NFL single-season record previously held by New York Giants legend Michael Strahan.
