Police have released images of the thief who stole from the home of Greg Biffle following the plane crash that killed the NASCAR icon and his family.

Biffle died last month along with his wife, Cristina, and their two children, Emma and Ryder, when their private jet crashed into the runway at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina.

In the wake of the tragedy, burglars kicked in Biffle’s bedroom door and stole $30,000 in cash, two handguns, NASCAR memorabilia and a backpack from his mansion.

No arrests have been made but, on Wednesday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office released photos of a suspect in the January 7 break-in.

Police believe the thieves entered Biffle’s house around 11pm and surveillance cameras captured a hooded person near the house.

The suspect is believed to have spent ‘an extended amount of time inside’ and, according to a 911 call, kicked in Biffle’s bedroom door but left his trophy cases curiously untouched.

‘I’m at the house now, and it looks like someone tried to break in,’ a woman – who identified herself as ‘the mother-in-law’ – told the 911 operator. ‘Someone tried to kick the doors in. It’s upstairs. It’s the doors on the top of the stairs, which is bizarre!’

The woman explained she was at the house to do some cleaning when she noticed the Christmas tree had been inexplicably moved. When she moved it back to its previous location, she noticed the bedroom doors had been kicked in. It’s not clear how the burglars entered the premises and the case remains unsolved.

As heard in the recording, 911 operator asked the caller if she noticed anything missing. Having already checked Biffle’s study, she informed the operator that his trophies were untouched.

The 911 operators asked her ‘not to disturb anything else’ before telling her that police were on their way. As a precaution, she put her dogs behind another door to prevent them from startling the officers.

‘Once again, I’m sorry that this happened, and my condolences,’ the officer said to the woman.

A public remembrance for Greg Biffle and the six other victims was held at Charlotte’s Bojangles Coliseum earlier this month and Biffle’s 14-year-old daughter Emma was recently laid to rest.
