John Terry fuelled talk of his impending £14million takeover at Colchester United by turning up for their match on Tuesday night.

The England and Chelsea legend, 45, pitched up for their League Two clash against Accrington Stanley at the JobServe Community Stadium in Essex.

And Terry looked in good spirits talking to fans before watching Colchester run out 2-1 winners – with his 22-year-old nephew Frankie Terry starting at centre-back.

He is part of a consortium soon to announce a £14m takeover of the fourth-tier side and is lined up to wield ‘significant influence’, as initially reported by The Sun.

Terry was greeted by fans on his arrival and is said to have spent between five and 10 minutes speaking with them.

He then took up a seat in a box to cast his eyes over the action.

Colchester owner Robbie Cowling has said of the situation: ‘Colchester United are currently in detailed discussions with a consortium regarding a proposed sale of the club.

‘At this stage, we are not in a position to comment on any specific individuals or companies involved.

‘Further details will only be shared once a transaction has been fully completed and all formalities have been concluded.

‘In the meantime, my focus remains on ensuring that any decision regarding the future ownership of the club is the right one for Colchester United, its supporters, and its long-term success.’

Terry currently mentors part-time at Chelsea’s academy and films football-themed videos for his TikTok channel, which has amassed over half a million fans.

An insider told The Sun: ‘This has been a long time in the making, and JT is really excited for it all to become official.

‘He will bring a real stardust. Everyone involved with Colchester is excited, and the hope is this deal will really put them on the map as they push for promotion.’

Terry has reportedly already been to Colchester’s Florence Park training ground multiple times to mix with his soon-to-be colleagues.

This is Colchester’s 10th consecutive campaign in the English Football League’s basement tier but they have been as high as the Championship as recent as 2007-08.
