Turning Point USA, the organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk, is planning an ‘All American Halftime Show’ in response to Bad Bunny’s headline slot at next year’s Super Bowl.
The NFL announced the polarizing decision to hand the stage to the Puerto Rican musician in late September, sparking widespread fury from MAGA supporters given the singer’s opposal of Donald Trump and his policies.
But now, those critics have an alternative option, although details of the show are still to be announced.
Turning Point launched its protest on Thursday, saying the event will be ‘celebrating faith, family and freedom’.
On the new website promoting the spectacle, fans are asked encouraged to sign up for more information and are asked about what type of music they want to hear.
One option, referencing the fact Bad Bunny performs in Spanish, simply says: ‘Anything in English’.
Turning Point USA have launched a different option to Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show
It comes days after the performer, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, sparked more controversy by remaining seated during a rendition of ‘God Bless America’ at the New York Yankees playoff game earlier this week.
Trump, meanwhile, called the NFL’s decision to give the Super Bowl halftime show to the artist ‘crazy’.
The president told Newsmax that he was unfamiliar with the 31-year-old musician but that the NFL was wrong to give him the prestigious gig given his previously stated dislike for Trump and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
‘I never heard of him, I don’t know who he is, I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s like, crazy,’ the president said.
