  • Carlos Alcaraz said he’s not distracted by making history at Wimbledon this year
  • He could become only the fifth man to win three straight at the All England Club

Carlos Alcaraz insists he’s not getting distracted by the prospect of becoming only the fifth man to win three Wimbledon titles in a row.

The Spaniard could join icons Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only men to complete a hat-trick if he can triumph on Centre Court once again.

Alcaraz comes into Wimbledon on an 18-match winning streak, including victories at the French Open and on the grass at Queen’s.

‘I really want to win the title, I really want to lift the trophy,’ said Alcaraz ahead of his first-round match tomorrow against Italian Fabio Fognini.

‘Right now, I’m not thinking about who I could join if I win three Wimbledons in a row. I am just thinking I want to be ready and to prepare myself in the best way. I feel a lot of confidence.’

Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic to win the last two finals and deny the Serb a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title.

Djokovic, now 38, has not won a Grand Slam since the US Open in 2023 but reached the semi-finals of the Australian and French Open this year — and has played down suggestions that this could be his final Wimbledon hurrah.

‘Whether it could be my last dance, I’m not sure,’ said Djokovic, who faces Frenchman Alexandre Muller in his first-round clash on Tuesday.

‘My wish is to play for several more years. I would love to be healthy physically and also mentally motivated to keep on playing at the highest level. That’s the goal, but you never know at this stage.

‘I would agree that Wimbledon could be my best chance (of winning a 25th Slam) because of the results I’ve had, because of how I feel, how I play in Wimbledon, just getting that extra push mentally and motivation to produce my best tennis.’
