Canberra Raiders youngster Chevy Stewart was arrested and charged after a bizarre alleged attack on a gaming machine at a bar in Cronulla.

The 20-year-old allegedly poured alcohol into one of the pokie machines situated on the premises of the nightspot Northies, causing significant damage to the machine.

It came after Storm had booked their place in Sunday’s NRL Grand Final, with a preliminary final victory against the Sharks on Friday night.

Police were called to the bar, and asked the professional footballer to exit the premises. Stewart complied with the requests of the officers.

The fullback was later charged with malicious damage to property and will now appear in Sutherland Local Court on Monday, November 6.

A police spokesperson added: ‘About 10pm on Friday (September, 26, 2025), police were called to a business on Elouera Rd, Cronulla, following reports a man had damaged property.

‘Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and were told a man had allegedly poured alcohol into one of the gaming machines, causing significant damage.

‘The 20-year-old man was arrested and issued a Court Attendance Notice for malicious damage. He is set to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Monday, 6 November 2025. The man was also issued a move-on direction from the premises which was complied with.’

The Raiders have subsequently stated that they are aware of the matter and had spoken to the NRL.

‘The NRL has been notified of the incident and is liaising with the club,’ a spokesperson for the NRL said.

Stewart, who was born in Sydney, attended the Endeavour Sports High School in Sutherland before he was snapped up by the Sharks, before moving to join the Canberra Raiders in 2022.

It was renowned coach Ricky Stuart who convinced the exciting fullback to join the club, with Stewart going on to play for the club the following season in the NSW Cup.

He penned a four-year deal to stay at the footy club, before going on to make his first-grade debut during round six of the 2024 season and has since made four NRL appearances for the Raiders after his path to the first team was blocked off by Kaeo Weekes.

Stewart’s contract is due to expire in 2026 and the footy star’s future has been left up in the air, after he was given permission by Canberra to negotiate with other teams.
