A major commuter road has been closed to traffic after a hole opened up in the road.
Part of Bury New Road, Bury, which takes traffic to the M60 and towards Manchester city centre, has collapsed.
The cavity, which is 33m (108ft) long, contains a cracked sewer pipe.
A United Utilities spokeswoman said it was working with Bury Council to carry out repairs “as soon as possible”.
“We appreciate how frustrating this must be for local residents, and we’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she said.
A diversion is in place with drivers advised to avoid junction 17 of the M60.

“The road was fully closed earlier on Tuesday for safety.
“It must remain closed while United Utilities carry out further investigations.
“We are doing all we can to resolve this problem as soon as possible.”
The council added that diversion routes, including via Scholes Lane and Fairfax Road, were clearly signed and in place until further notice.
