LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has fully embraced his ‘Mad Scientist’ moniker and has added a club to his bag that he built himself from the ground up.

Speaking to ESPN on Wednesday, DeChambeau revealed that he’ll play with a 5-iron that he created using a 3D printer.

DeChambeau had attempted to play with the clubs at the 2024 Masters before they were deemed non-confirming by the USGA.

The two-time US Open winner currently uses a Krank driver and fairway woods, Avoda irons and Bettinardi wedges – but added the new club to his array.

When asked why he feels it’s a good time to use it, DeChambeau said, ‘Because they’re finally ready.’

The USGA has not yet approved the clubs, but if they are, they’ll go in DeChambeau’s bag: ‘That’s the plan as of now,’ the golfer said.

DeChambeau has attempted to get the clubs cleared twice for use at The Masters, but nothing has been approved so far.

‘We’ll see where it goes. We’ll see where it takes me,’ the golfer said. ‘All I could say now is, if I don’t put them in the bag, it’s my fault now.’

He added, ‘There’s this nature that I have about myself where innovation is a habit of mine, and I really find and take pride in that ability to learn – even through failure, even through making a bad decision or a good decision – what can I get from that.’

Part of that innovation has been to design bespoke clubs with different features that conform to his game. He’s worked with Avoda to build clubs and was recently seen using new wedges that have ‘almost a bubble on the bottom’ and more head weight.

Now, DeChambeau hopes that can turn into a victory at Augusta. After missing cuts in 2022 and 2023, he finished tied for sixth and tied for fifth in 2024 and 2025 respectively.
