Bryson DeChambeau has admitted he is not yet ready to commit his future to LIV Golf in the wake of Brooks Koepka’s shock exit from the Saudi-backed breakaway.

Koepka, a five-time major champion and one of the biggest names to defect from the PGA Tour, recently announced he was leaving LIV Golf.

His departure has brought the future of the rebel league into sharper focus and DeChambeau admitted he was ‘shocked’ to see Koepka go.

The US Ryder Cup star, whose contract is up at the end of the 2026 season, also said ‘things have got to change, things have got to improve.’

Talks are ongoing over an early extension with DeChambeau, now one of the most recognizable and popular players in golf. But he told Flushing It: ‘We have to get to a place where both parties have a good understanding of one another.

‘It is [about] getting to a place that makes sense for both sides. And, I think that can happen, but you never know.

‘Life throws curve balls and, obviously, we saw what happened today [with Koepka] and that was quite a shock to a lot of people.’

Dechambeau said he ‘respected’ Koepka’s decision but feared it would be a ‘slippery slope’ if the five-time major champion was given a ‘special exemption’ to rejoin the PGA Tour.

‘[That] definitely opens the doors for others to do the same,’ said DeChambeau, who admitted he did not know whether his future would be resolved before the first LIV event of the season in February.

‘There’s a lot of things to go through,’ he said.

‘With Brooks leaving it definitely throws in some unique things. And look, I mean, like I’ve said all along: I want to do this, I want to grow team golf across the globe. But it has to be right.

‘And there’s a lot of things that have to be done in order for it to be right. Things have got to change. Things have got to improve.’
