  • British tennis star Jodie Burrage was left in disbelief after losing a point
  • Burrage was facing current Wimbledon title holder Barbora Krejcikova
  • Sadly for the Brit, she would go on to lose the deciding set in a tie-break

British tennis star Jodie Burrage was left in disbelief after losing a point in incredibly unlucky circumstances at Eastbourne on Wednesday.

Burrage was facing current Wimbledon title holder Barbora Krejcikova in the last-16 of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament.

Although Krejcikova won the first set 6-4, the Czech international was serving to stay in the second set against the British number seven.

With the scores square at 15-15 on Krejcikova’s serve, Burrage hit a shot to her opponent’s forehand – which Krejcikova looked to have hit into the net.

However, in alarming fashion, the ball found a small gap in the net and bounced over on Burrage’s side of the court, awarding the Wimbledon champion the point.

An audibly shocked Annabel Croft remarked on commentary for the BBC: ‘No way.

Amazing sportsmanship from Barbora Krejcikova 👏

‘I’m not quite sure how that went over? It’s meant to be a British net! That is extraordinary.’

Burrage can then be seen walking towards umpire Marija Cicak, who can be heard saying that the ball ‘went over’.

However, in an admirable act of sportsmanship, Krejcikova insisted that the point was awarded to Burrage, after she found a small hole just below the net chord.

Although the Brit was able to make use of Krejcikova’s goodwill by winning the second set 6-4, she would go on to lose the deciding set in a tie-break.

Burrage beat Japanese player Moyuka Uchijima in the first round on Tuesday in what were blustery conditions in Sussex.

It marked her first WTA Tour win on the grass this year after two losses at the HSBC Championships and Nottingham Open.

Elsewhere at Eastbourne, Emma Raducanu was in action as she took on Maya Joint for a place in the quarter-finals.

After winning the first set, she trailed 4-1 in the second, despite Joint slipping five times in the match.

Following Eastbourne, Wimbledon will get underway on Monday June 30.
