A British superbike rider has been rushed to hospital and placed into an induced coma following a horror crash.

Callum Grigor is said to be in a ‘serious’ condition in hospital after he crashed in Saturday’s Pirelli National Superstock Championship race at the Donington Park circuit.

The Scottish star collided with fellow rider Nathan Harrison at Goddards, the final corner of the iconic racing track in the East Midlands.

Harrison was also rushed to hospital following the incident, with the 27-year-old said to have suffered an ‘isolated limb injury’.

A statement from British Superbike read: ‘In the Pirelli National Superstock Championship race at Donington Park circuit today Callum Grigor crashed on the opening lap of the race on the approach to Goddards Corner.

‘He and his machine then collided with Nathan Harrison who also fell.

‘The race was immediately red flagged and both riders were attended to by the BSB Medical Team.

‘Callum Grigor was found to be in a serious condition and required immediate trackside intervention, including being placed into an induced coma.

‘Nathan Harrison was treated at the medical centre for an isolated limb injury. Both riders were transferred to the local major trauma centre, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, for onward assessment and care.

‘Further information will be provided when available.’

In the aftermath of the incident, fans flooded to social media to send their well wishes and messages of support to both riders.
