  • Footy fans have roasted Lions over jersey fail

The Brisbane Lions have copped a ribbing on social media after a design feature on their jerseys left some fans raising their eyebrows.

The Lions side were wearing their AFLW Sir Doug Nicholls Round jumper on Sunday for their showdown with Carlton.

The striking-looking jumpers featured an image of a black tree on the back, which some fans thought looked like a wardrobe malfunction that made it seem as though the players’ shorts were falling down over their backsides.

Fans watching at home took to Reddit and X to joke about the illusion.

‘Design department going to be jobless after this,’ posted one footy fan.

‘That’s bloody hilarious,’ replied another.

‘Did nobody actually wear the kit before committing to the design,’ asked a third.

Former footy star David King could see the funny side of the jersey bungle.

‘I’m pretty sure when they sorted out the Lions’ AFLW jumpers, it was a plumber that came up with the end point,’ he told SEN Breakfast.

‘Those jumpers looked like there were plumbers cracks hanging out everywhere. They are no good.

‘You don’t even need to study it. It’s just off-putting. You think what’s going on here? It looks like their shorts have been pulled down, so I think the AFLW and the Brisbane Lions jumpers need to be corrected in a hurry. They are terrible.’

According to the club, the jerseys were designed by Jordan Ah Chee, brother of Lions star Callum Ah Chee.

The Lions AFLW side didn’t have much luck on the scoreboard either on Sunday, with the Blues producing a stunning 14-point upset of AFLW heavyweights.

A stunning five-goal second quarter laid the platform for Mathew Buck’s side in their 9.4 (58) to 6.8 (44) victory at Brighton Homes Arena.

McKay (32 disposals, seven clearances), Mimi Hill (25, five) and Dayna Finn (29 touches, one goal) all shone for Carlton.

Bohanna kicked a game-high three goals, including two crucial majors in the final term to help seal the result.

It gave the Blues a 2-1 start to the season while the Lions, who were last year’s beaten grand finalists, slipped to 1-2.

Brisbane are currently ninth on the ladder, with Carlton sitting seventh.
