Thomas Morstead has revealed his disappointment after being cut by the New York Jets in a brutal phone call at the end of his second season back with the team.

The 39-year-old punter, who won the Super Bowl in his memorable 12-year stint with the New Orleans Saints, broke the news in an Instagram video on Tuesday.

Morstead admitted he is ‘disappointed by how it went down’ after being informed over the phone that he no longer has a future with the Jets, whom he rejoined in 2023 after a previous stint in 2021.

‘Just had a call from the Jets that they’re moving on from me,’ he said while on the field at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans.

‘I just wanted to say thank you to all the fans, all the coaches that I worked with over the past few years, all the teammates. It’s been awesome, I’ve had a great experience.

‘Disappointed to be moving on and disappointed how it went down, but it’s just the way it goes in this business.

‘I really appreciate everybody that’s been a part of the journey.’

Morsstead began his NFL career with the Saints after being selected out of Southern Methodist University with the 164th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
