Thieves have broken into the home of Pittsburgh Penguins alternate captain Evgeni Malkin and stolen his three Stanley Cup championship rings, according to reporter Jennifer Borrasso with Pittsburgh CBS station KDKA.
The station reports that Malkin’s home in the Pittsburgh suburb of Sewickley Heights was burgled on Saturday and the three rings are missing.
KDKA reports the back door of Malkin’s home was kicked in and that both the alarm system and security cameras happened to be down at the time. Additionally, his safe had been kept open.
At the time of the break-in, the Penguins were playing a matinee game against the Ottawa Senators. A call to 911 was placed hours later.
Allegheny County Police confirmed to KDKA that they are investigating a burglary in the area. A spokesperson added that they’re looking to speak with anyone with more information on the situation.
