The Dallas Cowboys are making a surprise push to sign former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, according to reports.
Kupp, the Super Bowl LVI champion and MVP, was released from the only team he ever played for – the Los Angeles Rams – this week.
In an effort to save on cap space, the 31-year-old Kupp (a third-round pick out of Eastern Washington in 2017) was axed from the team after they could not find a suitable trade partner to take him off their books.
However, Kupp’s NFL career is not in jeopardy as several teams have been reported as potential landing spot and one in particular has raised eyebrows.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, despite his insistences that he won’t be aggressive this offseason, is reportedly making a play for Kupp, according to Adam Schefter.
The 2021 offensive player of the year would be a welcome addition in Dallas as a strong complimentary receiver to CeeDee Lamb.

However, Schefter’s report warned that, while the Cowboys are making a ‘push,’ they are not considered the most likely receiver for the wideout.
He added that Kupp’s decision on a new home could come as soon as Friday, while The Athletic’s Dianna Russini also reported that the Seahawks are also believed to be interested.
Since beginning his career with the Rams in 2017, Kupp, whose wife shared an emotional reaction to his release, has gone on to be fourth in the franchise’s list of all-time receiving yards leaders and third all-time in receiving touchdowns.
His career best year came in 2021 – the year the Rams won Super Bowl LVI in their home stadium by defeating Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
That season, he led the league in catches (145), receiving yards (1,947), receiving touchdowns (16), and yards per game (114.5).
Kupp earned Super Bowl LVI MVP honors by catching two touchdowns in the victory.
A one-time Pro-Bowler and a one-time All-Pro selection, Kupp hasn’t managed to return to those 2021 highs in recent seasons.

Last year, he caught 67 passes on 100 targets for 710 yards and six touchdowns for a Rams team that made the AFC Divisional round.
When asked about his future in the NFL, Kupp said, ‘I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me. I’ll be playing football next year. That much I know.’
Cooper and Anne Marie married in 2015 – while he was still in college. They share three sons.
Teams that might be interested in Kupp’s services include the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, and Seattle Seahawks among other landing spots.
