The New York Yankees are mourning the death of former World Series champion pitcher Art Schallock following his death at the age of 100.
From 2022, Schallock had been the oldest Major League Baseball player still alive, and his death was announced by the league on Saturday night.
A statement read: ‘We are saddened to learn of the passing of Art Schallock, who we celebrated last year on his 100th birthday. Mr. Schallock pitched for the Yankees and Orioles from 1951-55. He was MLB’s oldest-living player and would have turned 101 next month.’
Schallock played five seasons in the major leagues and was part of three World Series teams, pitching in the 1953 series against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
