New York Giants defensive star Dexter Lawrence has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a dislocated elbow.
Lawrence, a candidate for defensive player of the year, suffered the gruesome injury in the Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Lawrence had revealed following Thursday’s game that he had suffered the dislocation but had indicated that he would try to play through the injury.
But that hope was swiftly shutdown by head coach Brian Daboll at a Friday press conference when he revealed that he expected a ‘long-term’ absence for the defensive player.
With just five games remaining in the regular season – and the Giants’ slim playoff chances already ended by the Thanksgiving defeat – it appears that Lawrence has played his last snap of the year.
A Pro Bowler each of the last two years, Lawrence had enjoyed one of his best seasons to date.

The injury woes are just the latest bad break this season for New York as the misery continues to pile on.
Daboll’s sorry side were condemned to their seventh straight defeat by the Dallas Cowboys, who compounded their misery after running out 27-20 winners at AT&T Stadium.
And as well as extending their miserable losing streak, the Giants’ latest shortcoming also ended their near-impossible playoff hopes for another year.
With a 2-10 record, it is now mathematically impossible for them to finish above the second-place Washington Commanders in the NFC East.
The Commanders boast a 7-5 record, meaning at best the Giants can only finish level with them on 7-10 if they win all five of their remaining fixtures and Washington lose theirs.
