Jude Bellingham has admitted he ‘lost his smile’ after being made to feel ‘like a scapegoat’ after England’s Euro 2024 campaign.
The Real Madrid midfielder revealed it felt as if the ‘world was crumbling down’ on him in the wake of England’s 2-1 final defeat by Spain in July.
He also said that his nan his afraid to leave her house for fear of being hounded by reporters.
But he also insisted he is back smiling and feels he is the ‘luckiest lad in the world’ ahead of Madrid’s visit to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Bellingham was criticised for his performances at Euro 2024 despite scoring twice and registering one assist on England’s run to a second consecutive final.
In a human rights report conducted by UEFA following the Euros, it was revealed that Bukayo Saka and Bellingham were the two most seriously abused players at the tournament.
