Devin Booker has reportedly agreed a stunning two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension with the Phoenix Suns.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Booker has put pen to paper on the deal which will run now until 2030. It’s the highest annual extension salary in NBA history.

Booker, 28, still had three seasons left on the four-year supermax extension – worth $222 million – which he signed back in 2022.

Last season, Booker averaged 25.6 points on 46.1 percent shooting, along with a career-high 7.1 assists per game in 75 appearances.

Despite his impressive displays, the Suns missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and, as a result, have already begun to shake up their roster.

One of their first acts of the off-season was orchestrating a trade for two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant with the Houston Rockets.

The blockbuster deal will see Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and the No 10 pick in the draft head to the Suns.

Durant’s trade likely freed up funds for the Suns to offer four-time All-Star Booker the blockbuster deal.

News of the deal broke on social media on Wednesday night and it didn’t take long for NBA fans to question the finances of the deal.

One user on X wrote: ’72m for a player that isn’t even top 10′.

‘Most overrated ‘superstar’ ever,’ another said. In similar fashion, another fan wrote: ‘Biggest overpay in NBA history’.

‘These contracts don’t make sense these days’, one fan wrote.

During his time at the Suns, Booker came close to sealing an NBA Championship back in 2021 but lost out in the end to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Reflecting on their ambitions heading into the new season, Booker told ESPN back in Mach: ‘I take pride in the community in Phoenix, the people that have supported me since I was 18 when things were ugly.

‘And the people that are with us, we just fell short of accomplishing what we want. So I want to do it, and I want to do it here.

‘That’s the responsibility of being a franchise player, and I wear that with honor. So it might not look the most pretty right now, but we got to get it done and I’m going to do it.’

The news of Booker’s extension comes amid an off-season fraught with contract extensions – specifically with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Earlier on Wednesday, the freshly-crowned NBA champions signed Chet Holmgren to a new staggering contract extension

Holmgren has inked a staggering five-year maximum rookie contract extension that could reach $250 million, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 7-foot-1 forward’s deal is guaranteed for $239m but contains clauses that could see that sum rise to $250m.

The deal comes after Holmgren’s superstar teammate, Gilgeous-Alexander, agreed to a four-year, $285million super-max extension that keeps him with the team through the 2030-31 season.
