Controversial Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has revealed why he’ll vote for Donald Trump in next month’s presidential election.
Butker, who sparked outrage by giving a polarizing commencement speech at Benedictine College back in May, threw his support behind Trump during an appearance on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle.
‘I’m supporting the president that’s going to be the most pro-life president,’ he said on Thursday. ‘The topic is the most crucial topic for me. I want us to be fighting for the most vulnerable, fighting for the unborn, and that’s what we should prioritize.
‘I think you have to vote for whoever is gonna be the most pro-lfie and we have to be prayerful men that put God first. I think that’s what’s going to be best for our country.’
In May, the three-time Super Bowl winner drew heavy criticism with his commencement speech at Benedictine College, a private Catholic liberal arts school in Atchison, Kansas.

During the speech, Butker told the graduating class that most of the women receiving degrees were probably more excited about getting married and having children, and that some Catholic leaders were ‘pushing dangerous gender ideologies onto the youth of America.’
He also criticized Pride month and President Joe Biden’s stance on abortion.
Trump has received criticism over his shifting views on abortion ahead of this year’s Presidential election, after taking credit for the Supreme Court’s historic reversal of Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
‘My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land,’ he said back in April.
During their televised debate last month, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris claimed that warned voters that Trump will ‘sign a national abortion ban’ if he is re-elected.
However, the former President has also ripped into some of the most restrictive state laws on abortion, such as Florida – where a six-week abortion ban was recently imposed.
After insisting he favors exceptions in special cases such as rape and incest, Trump called Florida’s ban a ‘terrible thing and a terrible mistake.’
Butker’s latest admission that he plans to vote for Trump is likely to divided opinion just like his speech at Benedictine College earlier this year.
The NFL distanced itself from his speech at the time, saying ‘his views are not those of the NFL as an organization.’
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said at the time that while he doesn’t agree with all the beliefs espoused by Butker during the address, he nevertheless respected his teammate’s right to make them be known.
Earlier this summer, Butker agreed to a contract extension reportedly worth $25.6million over the next four seasons, making him the league’s highest-paid kicker.
The Chiefs have already been involved in political controversy this year after Mahomes’ wife Brittany also endorsed Trump on Instagram.
Brittany received a huge backlash after liking one of the Republican leader’s posts mapping out his proposed policies if he wins the election in November.
Her social-media like sparked even more controversy given her friendship with Taylor Swift, who has previously spoken out against Trump.
