Authorities in Costa Rica are investigating the tragic death of Miller Gardner, the son of Yankees legend Brett Gardner who died aged just 14.
Miller died while the family were on vacation in Costa Rica, it was revealed on Monday.
Gardner and his wife Jessica announced the awful news over the weekend, explaining that their son had fallen ill ‘along with several other family members’.
On Monday, the US State Department told the New York Post: ‘We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death.
‘Out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones during this difficult time, we have no further comment at this time.’
The State Department also confirmed ‘the death of a US citizen in Costa Rica on March 21.’

It comes hours after reports first emerged that the teen passed away at a resort in the country. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.

In their statement on Sunday, Brett and Jessica said ‘so many questions remain’ regarding Miller’s sudden death.
‘With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,’ they said.
