The pedestrian was hit on the A34 Kingsway in Manchester on Friday

A 16-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car.

He was struck by a Seat Ibiza while walking across Kingsway, in Burnage, Manchester at about 18:40 GMT on Friday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

He suffered serious injuries and died later in hospital.

An 18-year-old man was arrested following the crash on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail while inquiries were ongoing, GMP said.

Det Con Antrobus said: “This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are first and foremost with the family of the young boy who sadly lost his life.

“They are being supported by specialist officers, and we would ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve.

“We know that the local community will also be shocked and saddened to hear of this incident however we’d encourage anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time the incident occurred to please come forward.

The detective constable added: “This also includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of it.”
