Boston Celtics prepare to trade another NBA champion as ruthless offseason rebuild continues

The Boston Celtics are set to continue their summer shake-up by trading a third star from their roster, according to reports.

Just two days before the NBA Draft, the Celtics traded point guard Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers before lining up another deal for star center Kristaps Porzingis.

ESPN’s Shams Charania, however, claims that the Celtics are not done there and will look to continue their summer rebuild by trading another star in Jaylen Brown.

The report claims that, while Brad Stevens would prefer to keep the shooting guard, there are a number of teams who have shown ‘significant’ interest in the 28-year-old.

Brown – who was a key member of the Championship-winning side in 2024 – enjoyed an impressive season for Boston and averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

Charania also claimed that, along with Brown, the Celtics will also listen to offers for point guard Derrick White.

The duo played significant roles in the Celtics’ 2024 success however after failing to defend their title, the franchise are looking to overhaul the squad this summer.

Boston finished second in the Eastern Conference last season before being eliminated by the New York Knicks – after Jason Tatum suffered an ACL injury.

Brown has been with the side since 2016 and was named the 2024 NBA Finals MVP after shining across five matches against the Dallas Mavericks last summer.

Back in 2023, he signed a five-year contract with Boston worth $304million after they triggered a supermax extension in his deal.

Meanwhile, Boston chiefs are not waiting around to get their rebuild started and began the week by trading point guard Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers.

In exchange, the Trail Blazers sent back shooting guard Anfernee Simons and two second round picks.

Then, one day later, reports claimed the Celtics were finalizing a three-team deal centered around sending star center Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks will send guard Terance Mann and the 22nd overall pick to the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn will then send Georges Niang and a second-round pick to Boston.

While a key contributor to the Celtics, Porzingis’ health was a key issue throughout his time in Boston.
